Während ich vor einem Jahr mit dem iPad als gesamtes nicht zurecht kam, würde ich es zwar heute alleine wegen der App Flipboard kaufen, aber je länger ich das iPad 2 nutze, desto mehr interessante Tools finde ich, um es auch in meinem Business-Alltag einzusetzen. Die grösste Änderung gegenüber dem Stand vor einem Jahr ist ganz klar das Multitasking, das mit iOS 4.0 eingeführt wurde. Damit kann effizient zwischen Apps gewechselt werden ohne dass man jedes mal wieder den Startscreen sieht. Das alleine, hat die Art mit dem iPad zu arbeiten komplett verändert. Dachte ich zuerst, ich würde das iPad 2 vielleicht für die eine oder andere Präsentation im kleinen Kreis, oder als Bilderbuch mit Referenzen nützen entdecke ich jetzt auch kleine Helferchen die mir erlauben auf Reisen einfach auf Informationen zuzugreifen oder Gedanken niederzuschreiben. Hier die 10 wichtigsten Apps für meine Businessaktivitäten:

Dropbox ist sozusagen das Dateisystem von iOS. Eigentlich hat Apple hier einfach keine Lösung gehabt und Dropbox hat diese Lücke gefüllt. Mit Dropbox kann ich auf dem iPad trotz dem geschlossenen System auf all meine Daten zugreifen, sei es zur Ansicht oder auch zur direkten Weiterverarbeitung mit anderen Apps. Dank der API Schnittstelle funktioniert diese Datenübernahme auch innerhalb von Apps.
Evernote ist ein Basistool, mit dem ich schon auf MacBook, PC und dem iPhone meine kompletten Unterlagen und Notizen verwalte. Beim Surfen mit iPhone und iPad wandern interessante Links via E-Mail in Evernote, Unterlagen, Scans und Bilder von unterwegs kommen direkt über die entsprechenden Clients in die Notizensammlung.
Quickoffice für iPad (CHF 17.00) ist eine App mit der man sowohl Microsoft Word, Excel und Powerpoint Dateien bearbeitet. Das spezielle an der App ist aber, dass man sowohl Dateien in der Dropbox wie auch Google Documents direkt bearbeiten kann. Das heisst ich habe von überall Zugriff auf meine Dokumente und kann schnell Änderungen oder Berechnungen machen und die Dateien dann auch als PDF exportieren oder über Airprint drucken.
iThoughtsHD (CHF 11.00) ist das erste Programm mit dem ich wieder Freude an Mindmaps habe. Ich hatte ja in der Firma mit dem Umstieg von Mac OS X auf Windows ganz vergessen wie praktisch man mit Mindmaps Gedanken sammeln kann. Auf dem iPad habe ich mit iThoughtsHD nun ein super Tool dabei mit dem ich schnell meine Gedanken ablegen kann. iThoughts unterstützt ganz viele Mindmap-Formate, man kann ein Mindmap aber auch einfach als Liste per E-Mail weiterleiten. Praktisch um die Gedanken in Evernote abzulegen oder Mitarbeitern ohne entsprechendes Programm weiterzuleiten.
iA Writer (CHF 1.10) stammt von dem Schweizer Oliver Reichenstein der seine Agentur Information Architects in Tokio hat. iA Writer ist eigentlich eine Schreibmaschine für das iPad. Auch hier kann man die Daten direkt auf die Dropbox sichern, der grosse Vorteil der App ist aber deren Reduktion auf das wesentliche und die Erweiterung der iPad Bildschirmtastatur um Cursortasten und andere praktische Shortcuts die man beim Schreiben gerne braucht.
Calculator ist das Programm, das man eigentlich gar nicht kaufen will. Aber anders als beim iPhone hat das iPad von Haus aus keinen Taschenrechner. Mit Calculator, der eigentlich kostenlos ist, hat man einen praktischen Taschenrechner für’s Büro oder unterwegs. Eigentlich deshalb, weil man sehr schnell die paar Franken ausgibt um den Rechner werbefrei zu halten. Die grossen Tasten und die schön gemachte Grafik sind die 1.10 aber Wert.
GoodReader (CHF 5.50) ist das Schweizer Taschenmesser unter den PDF-Reader Apps. Neben pdf Dateien kann man damit auch Word, Excel und Powerpoint Files öffnen sowie Bild- und Sounddateien anzeigen. Mit der Integration mit Dropbox oder WebDav Servern kann man Goodreader gut nutzen um zum Beispiel Dokumentationen schnell griffbereit zu haben. Anderseits ist Goodreader auch ganz praktisch um eBooks im PDF Format zu lesen.
Soundnote für iPad (CHF 5.50) ist ein Notizenprogramm mit eingebautem Soundrecorder. Praktisch um bei Sitzungen, Vorlesungen oder Vorträgen nicht nur Notizen nach Hause zu nehmen, sondern auch die Möglichkeit zu haben jederzeit nachzuhören was genau gesagt wurde. Das praktische, jede Notiz (Text oder Zeichnungen) können einfach angeklickt werden und man kommt direkt zu der Stelle in der Audioaufnahme an der man die Notiz gemacht hat. Sowohl Text als auch das Audiofile können per E-Mail versendet werden.
Roambi – Visualizer ist ein Visualisierungstool, das ich leider im Detail noch nicht austesten konnte, das aber vielversprechend aussieht. Gerade in grösseren Organisationen kann damit der Informationsfluss vereinfacht werden und die Mitarbeiter mit schönen KPI-Dashboards ausgerüstet werden. Die App ist für den einfachen Gebrauch mittels Excel Import auf die zentrale Seite kostenlos, Firmen die die Visualisierungen in Echtzeit nutzen wollen bezahlen aber für die Dienstleistung.
GoToMeeting für iPad ist die iPad App für Webmeetings. Leider kann man damit nur an Meetings teilnehmen und keine eigenen Meetings organisieren. Gerade wenn man unterwegs ist, kann diese App zusammen mit einem iPhone Headset das Setup für eine Telefonkonferenz vereinfachen. Die Kamera im iPad 2 wird von GoToMeeting aber noch nicht unterstützt.

Für nur 41.20 Franken habe ich aus meinem iPad 2 ein mobiles Büro gemacht, mit dem ich nicht nur Dateien anschauen kann, sondern auch aktiv bearbeiten. Ich bin positiv erstaunt wie gut man zumindest auf die schnelle was suchen oder anpassen kann, genausogut kann man das iPad natürlich auch nutzen um Informationen weiterzuleiten. Das integrierte E-Mail Programm und der Kalender, mit oder ohne Exchange Anbindung runden natürlich den Nutzen im Businessumfeld ab. Selten war es so angenehm unterwegs schnell was zu erledigen. Must-Have 25 Mac Apps

Over the years I’ve had to mess with many OS X installations, backups, failures and restores. That’s just the usual life of a OS X geek in a place where people are scared of leaving their Windows PCs, but really would like to get a Mac. In fact, I’m quite proud of all those friends of mine I’ve managed to convince to get on the other side, but I’m even more proud of them because now they’re teaching the basics to someone else. This is the usual chain of events in a life of a standard OS X geek. Having to deal with installations and restores, I’ve come to the point where I know exactly which apps to install depending on what that user needs, and how. A good friend of mine was so used to Firefox I had to bet (I’m serious) that he would like Safari more if only he gave it a chance. But that’s not the main story here. Over the years I created some sort of personal list of the first apps I install on a fresh new Mac every single time, right after the Network preferences are set up and ready to go. This list, which by no means used to exist on a physical side, is now embedded below for future reference (either mine, or my friends’) and you, who may find a couple of hidden gems in there.
